Derby down…

I survived, we all survived, and even better, I think all of the horses survived! This past Saturday was “our” 10th Annual Derby Day party. I say “our” because I/we have inherited the party. Started by this year’s Grand Marshall, Mike Oravec and his old housemates in Hudson, Blair (my husband) and I have had the proud honor of hosting it for the past I don’t know how many years, 4 or 5 maybe. It’s pretty standard fare, good southern food and strong mint juleps.

Since we moved in the fall, the new location made us rethink a few things, and of course I like to go a little overboard, with everything! After a truckload of mulch (8yards) got delivered the weekend before the big party, all week was a mad rush to get the place in shape! Gratefully we were able to hire a little help, but as always everything came together with the help of our friends and fantastic places like Graf Growers.

After planning the biggest party of my life, my wedding, last October, it seems I can’t simply have regular napkins…I now always turn to ForYourParty.com. I ordered and partially designed, using their design tools, 10th annual linen-like cocktail napkins and wooden drink stir sticks (a must for a good mint julep), and then kept thinks more simple, using the same rose but in gold on white, reading: Scott House, for coasters and linen-like guest towels for the restrooms so that they will outlast that one party. That being said, the cocktail napkins and stir-sticks will probably be featured at our house everyday this summer, so come on over, the bourbon is still flowing!

I have a small collection of Derby glasses left to me by my Uncle Allan.
